I worked with a small team of computational designers to develop the design of the solar canopy in Grimshaw’s Sustainability Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai. It was a thrilling experience and I was honored to be a part of it.

The canopy:

  • Is ~120 meters long. Huge.

  • Is a developable surface that interpolates a circle and an ellipse

  • Is about 20 meters at the base

  • Generates enough energy from solar panels to make the building below self sufficient
